Children need plenty of exercise and a balanced diet for healthy development and health.

Childhood is particularly important for the development of attitudes and behaviours. Nurseries, kindergartens and schools are ideal settings for health promotion.

That is why the Baden-Württemberg Foundation launched the health promotion programme Join the Healthy Boat. The programme is carried out and scientifically supported by scientists from Ulm University in the fields of sports medicine, biometrics, psychology and education.

THE PROGRAMME FOCUSSES ON THE FOLLOWING POINTS:

1.) Lots of exercise

2.) A meaningful way to spend your free time, if possible without screen media

3.) Eating a healthy diet

4.) Teaching relaxation and mindfulness

and wants to get children used to a healthy way of life from an early age on.

The topics are an essential part of the primary school curriculum and the orientation plan for kindergartens in Baden-Württemberg and are brought closer to the children in a playful way - they are packaged in little pirate stories in which the pirate children Finn and Fine accompany the children on various adventures.

With the materials developed by educators and scientists from the study group Join the Healthy Boat, your child's care workers and teachers can deepen the content of the curriculum during day-to-day routines or in class.

Through exercise units, the children experience self-confidence and security in dealing with their body. Sufficient physical activity is the basis for further development processes and supports, among other things, language development, concentration and reading skills in children.

In nutrition units, the children learn what it means to eat healthily and can experience new flavours and expand their knowledge of healthy foods. One focus is on healthy drinking behaviour and learning about healthy thirst quenchers.

Finn and Fine also give the children assistance in the correct use of screen media, television consumption, game consoles, tablets, etc. and give tips for alternative, more active leisure activities.

YOU ARE THE ROLE MODEL!

We rely on your cooperation, because you as parents have an important role model function for your children in terms of exercise, leisure activities and eating habits.

IMPLEMENTATION IN NURSERY, KINDERGARTEN AND SCHOOL

The contents of Join the Healthy Boat are implemented directly by the care workers and teachers in their nurseries, kindergartens, or schools. They receive advanced training and scientifically sound and tried-and-tested materials for long-term implementation of health promotion in nurseries, kindergartens, or schools.
